COHORT 1

Summer Events
Internships:  70 hours
June 8 – July 23
Participants will receive a $500 “scholarship credit” for their internship, which will be paid directly to the college or university the student enrolls at following completion of the DRITA program and high school graduation.  Internships will be 70-hours.
    
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Course:  9am-4pm
June 22 – June 26  
TOPICS IN GIS: Provides hands-on introduction to a dynamic desktop GIS (Geographic Information System). Introduces the components of a desktop GIS and their functionality. Emphasizes manipulation of data for the purpose of analysis, presentation, and decision-making.

Technology Expo
July 24, 2009

College & Career Workshops 08-09 (10am to 4pm)
Academic workshops on educational planning and preparation for college.
June 20, 2009

Reminder:
* A parent or a guardian must attend college and career workshops with his/her child.
* Students arrive @10:00am and Parents arrive at 12:00pm.
* Lunch will be served at 12:00pm.
* Workshops are from 10:00am to 4:00pm

Summer Events
Robotics Course:  9am – 4pm
June 8 – 12
TOPICS IN ROBOTICS: Provides an opportunity for students to explore topical areas of interest to include an overview of terminology, principals, practices, and applications of robotics.

June 15 – July 23

College & Career Workshops 08-09

Parents/students are to meet at their schedule dates and times.
May 5, 6, 7 (6pm to 8pm)
May 9, 2009 (9am to 4pm)

COHORT 3

Basic Information Technology Skills (BITS) (9am to 4pm)
BITS is a 40-hour introduction to information technology. The course will build a common basic vocabulary, develop introductory computer skills and problem-solving ability, and give you a “preview” of advanced IT topics. Students will learn how to navigate in Windows, customize your computer settings, explore what makes the Internet work, and how to make a web page. They will also dabble in some advanced topics: setting up a network and computer programming.

April 25, 2009 - Parent Demonstration Day!

Summer Events
Animation Course: 9am – 4pm
June 8-12 and June 15-19
TOPICS IN ANIMATION: Provides an opportunity for students to explore various techniques of animation and digital effects. Teaches theoretical elements of aesthetics and sequential imagery, to include manipulation of images and various forms of computer animation.  

Programming Course: 9am – 4pm
June 8-12 and June 15-19
TOPICS IN PROGRAMMING: Provides students with fundamental concepts and terminology of software application development and skills in designing and writing simple computer programs.
